ABOUT CREDIT BANK SERVICES

The Department of Education of New York state operates the Regents Credit Bank. This service evaluates all sources of potential credit, including credit from college courses, correspondence courses, equivalency test scores, extra institutional workshops, corporate seminars and the like, FAA pilot licenses and certificates, nursing credentials, and assessment of one’s knowledge gained through life and work experience and converts them into college credits on their transcript.

There are seven area categories where your educational accomplishments can be evaluated and turned into college credits on their transcript. The first six categories have set amounts of credit. For example, fluency in a foreign language is automatically worth 24 semester credits. Finishing the Xerox corporation’s course on repairing the 9400 copier is automatically assessed 12 semester units, and so on. Further examples include:

Associate Computer Professional (ACP) 24 semester credit hours

Certified Data Processor (CDP) 36 semester credit hours

Certified Employee Benefit Specialist 34 semester credit hours

Certified Financial Planner 21 semester credit hours

Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) 33 semester credit hours

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) 33 semester credit hours

Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) 30 semester credit hours

Chartered Financial Consultant 30 semester credit hours

FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist 60 semester credit hours

FAA Mechanic Certificate 55 semester credit hours

Registered Nurse 60 semester credit hours

Respiratory Therapist 44 semester credit hours

The seventh category involves a special assessment of your life learning experiences. You will normally be required to visit the campus in New York to meet with a panel of experts in a given field for this type of evaluation and assessment.

Like a bank, the service evaluates all sources of credit and "deposits" them in your credit account. The Credit Bank then issues a transcript with a consolidated total of college credits earned through all of your educational experiences. This transcript can then be mailed to any institution you are considering.
