SCHOOLS ACCREDITED BY THE DETC

The Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education as well as by CHEA to accredit both private and non-private correspondence schools whether at the degree or non-degree levels.

However, the  DETC accreditation does not carry the same weight as regional accreditation. If you plan to transfer into a regionally approved institution with a degree earned from a DETC accredited school, you should check with the admissions offices of the schools you’re interested in.

Some studies suggest that up to 50% of regionally accredited schools will accept the DETC degrees and credits. So there remains plenty  of room for rejection. Harvard will accept DETC graduates, but most known schools will not.  Plan carefully.
